We have found that the diameter of the LCIV is highly variable in the same patient on multiple contrast-enhanced cross-sectional studies performed within a short interval (2). The mean change in the degree of LCIV compression between two sequential cross-sectional studies in the same patient was 23.1% (P < .0001), with a range from a 11.7% increase to a 68.8% decrease in the degree of compression in the second study. A total of 27 patients had an LCIV with a diameter less than 4 mm on the index study, with a mean diameter of 1.9 mm (range, 1.9-3.8 mm).
