Primary Certificate in Vascular and Interventional Radiology

摘要

TRAINING in vascular and interventional radiology (VIR) encompasses the performance of image-guided procedures, patient selection for these procedures, and direct patient care before and after procedures. The daily fabric of VIR practice differs substantially from that of diagnostic radiology (DR) in that prolonged direct interactions with a few patients is the norm in VIR and the exception in DR. Current training paradigms are designed to produce radiologists with special additional skills in VIR. In this article, the rationale, basic elements, and impact of a dedicated residency leading to primary certification in VIR will be explored from one author's perspective.
