Concurrent acarine and dermatophyte infestations in a bitch

A Labrador Retriever bitch suffering from generalized dermatitis with intense itching, for the past one and half year, was presented for treatment. She was under indiscriminate therapy inclusive of immuno-suppressive drugs with no consequence. Clinical examination of the bitch and laboratory investigations of 10% KOH digested deep skin scrapings revealed concurrent Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis and Microsporum gypseum infestations. The bitch dramatically responded the integrated specific therapy comprising of synchronous whole body wash, topical application of ohve oil based lotion, cautious systematic administration of acaricides and antifungal drugs and supportive therapy. Skin lesions competely healed and resolved with normal hair coat by day-180post therapy.
