摘要

We read with interest the article by Udry et al. [1] on the contribution of paternal thrombophilia to recurrent fetal loss. A few previous articles have also reported the high prevalence of thrombophilia in male parents causing an adverse pregnancy outcome through fetal thrombophilia [2,3]. A paternal role in causing pre-eclampsia (PE) has previously been reported, showing an association between PE and changing paternity [4]. The hypothetical explanation often given is that there is a negative influence of fetal thrombophilia on the fetal or intervillous circulation. If this is true, then maternal thrombophilia should have a much greater association with fetal loss due to its double negative impact both in the maternal and fetal circulation.
