The use and selection of the reagents for stabilizing treatment of recycled cooling systems and the purification of coke-oven gas are determined by the physico-chemical composition of water supplied, the engineering measures for the operation of water circulation systems, and the technological requirements for the recovery of tar, ammonia, light pyridine bases and benzene hydrocarbons from coke-oven gas. To provide the efficient operation of cooling systems, the reagents should be introduced in optimal concentrations; they should be introduced by means of electronic proportioning pumps. The physico-chemical composition of circulating water must be controlled every day with a view to correcting the concentration of the reagents, the hourly consumption of water and the operating regime of cooling towers. The important index-the total microbial number (TMN)-should be determined three times a week at least by the express method with incubation not longer than 12 hours.
