Advanced Imaging of the Temporomandibular Joint and Other Oral Structures

Beginning in the 1950s, diagnostic imaging in the form of traditional radiographs became an important means of assessing the veterinary patient. While two-dimensional radiology is useful for many areas of the body, its significant limitations are mostapparent when evaluating the head where many structures appear superimposed on one another. Furthermore, the many vascularized soft tissue structures associated with the head do no readily distinguish themselves from adjacent tissues.
