The currently industrially used sealing structure of the lids of gas offtake standpipes of coke oven, which seals the standpipe by means of hydroseal, is rather promising, but there are a number of design and technological shortcomings. The analysis of the state of the present-day hydroseals of the lids of coke-oven standpipes in Avdeevka, Kharkov, Zaporozhye and other byproduct coke plants in Ukraine and also of literature sources [1-4], has shown that they have virtually the same drawbacks with the sealing effect being nonetheless positive as compared to the existing method of "metal-to-metal" sealing. These drawbacks are as follows: the flumes are covered by viscosolid deposits, as a result of which the strength of hydroseal and the extent of sealing of the standpipe lid decrease. The result is that the gas gets through from under the lid into the atmosphere.
