On the basis of theoretical conceptions of the volumetric character of shrinkage and volumetric stressed state, a mathematical-statistical model is proposed for the formation of shaping cracks and of full-sized coke pieces, which is based on the following: the second theory of the strength of brittle bodies; the transition of the plane stressed state of the primary bearing plate of semicoke at the outset of the coking process to the volumetric (bulk) stressed state; the shrinkage of semicoke-coke is volumetric and the same along the axes of the coordinate system; in the plane parallel to the heating wall the shrinkage of the semicoke layers occurs in the direction of the axes of compression; as a result of the transverse shrinkage along the axes of compression, the coke cake pulls away from the chamber walls and an axial seam is formed; as a result of vertical shrinkage, horizontal shaping cracks are formed; as a result of the absence of longitudinal shrinkage, vertical cracks are formed; the full-sized coke pieces in the coke cake form a statistical assembly in which the distance between the axes of compression is a characteristic of the average transverse size of coke pieces.
