In Russian byproduct coke plants the principal method of preparation of coal tar for processing is gravitational settling. This method is successfully used in the Altai-Koks plant There are four coke-oven batteries in the plant with a useful chamber volume of 41.6 m~3. The first battery was put into operation in December 4, 1981. The coke-oven gas produced in these batteries is transferred, according to the flowsheet of condensation sections Nos. 1 and 2, to the separator of coke-oven batteries Nos. 1-4. Here the gas and liquid phases are separated. The liquid phase from the separators of batteries Nos. 1-3 is carried to mechanized clarifying settlers of condensation section No. 1, and after the separator of battery No. 4 it is sent to mechanized clarifiers of condensation section No.2. The flowsheet provides for the transfer of coal tar and liquor after the separator KB-3 to mechanized clarifiers of section No. 3.
