The paper describes a load shedding algorithm for alleviating line overloads based on Hopfield model for optimization. Newly derived sensitivity coefficients relating line flow changes with load shedding at a bus have been used for alleviating the line overloads. These coefficients have been derived using incremental power flow equations as obtained at the end of N-R load flow solution. Minimum load shed at load buses have been obtained using a quadratic objective function and comparing it with energy function of Hopfield model. Neurons in Hopfield model are augmented with a linear activation function. Such augmentation provides closed form relations for load sheds at various buses. Developed algorithm has been implemented on 25 bus standard EEE test system.
