A PC printer port is an inexpensive and powerful platform for interfacing peripherals with the outside world. The printer port in general provides eight TTL compatible outputs, five inputs and four bi-directional lines. The printer port also provides an useful means to use the PC interrupt structure. This paper discusses the exploitation of old PC's which are made junk for data acquisition using the printer port, and the various modes of operations of the present PC printer ports and their use to interface and control the external devices/instruments. Such a port exist in laptops also!
