This paper describes a Spectroscopic analysis of the chemiluminescences of a premised flame of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and air. Analysing the spectral signature of the flame radiation, this study tries to quantify the concentration of various radicals in the flame and proposes a method to simultaneously estimate the equivalence ratio and the flame temperature for a hydrocarbon flame over a wide range of equivalence ratios. The spectral signature of the flame was obtained using a spectroscope, which was analyzed by a Coupled Charge Device (CCD) camera. The interrelations between intensity of optical emissions from radicals and the flame temperature and equivalence ratio were found. The dependence of ratio of intensities of radicals on equivalence ratio was also analyzed. It was observed that the ratio of intensities of various radicals vary linearly with the equivalence ratio and hence, that information can be used to estimate the local equivalence ratio. The knowledge of equivalence ratio can then be used to estimate the flame temperature from the relationship between the temperature and the equivalence ratio.
