The control systems of the various machinery fitted on board a single ship, not to mention different ships, markedly differ from each other. Integrated platform management system (IPMS) aims to replace the traditional'standalone control and monitoring of platform machinery (main, auxiliary, ancillary) and damage control systems. The implementation of IPMS, in some form or the other, is inescapable for ensuring operational effectiveness of our future ships. Since, the induction of technology required for IPMS is considerably advanced for the present environment, a 'systems approach' to the problem applied to our conditions is a must.
