I am indeed honoured to deliver thel4,h Dr. N.S. Randhawa Memorial Lecture at the NBSS&LUP, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Regional Centre, Kolkata. I am thankful to the Indian Society of Soil Science, New Delhi and the ISSS, Kolkata Chapterfor giving me this opportunity. Dr. Randhawa made outstanding contributions in the field of Soil Science research particularly in the domain of Soil Chemistry, Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition. Dr. Randhawa was an able and successful administrator holding the post of Deputy Director General (SAE) and subsequently as a Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. To pay my tributes and homage to this legendary soil scientist, I thought it appropriate to speak on an important global and national issue "Managing arsenic-contaminated soils for sustainable crop production".
