The synthesis of the ligand 5-bis[2-(3,5-dimethyl-1-pyrazolyl)-ethyl]amine-1,10-phenanthroline and of its ruthenium(II) and rhenium(I) complexes. Binuclear species with Cu(I) and some photophysical properties

The synthesis and characterization of the new polyfunctional ligand phen-pza (5-bis[2-(3,5-dimethyl-1-pyrazolyl)-ethyl]amine-l, 10-phenanthroline) are described. Also reported are the preparations and some photophysical properties of the ruthenium(II) and rhenium(I) complexes [Ru(bpy)_2(phen-pza)](PF_6)_2 (bpy = 2.2'-bipyridine) and [Re(CO)_3Br(phen-pza)], respectively. and the supramolecular copper(I) adducts[Ru(bpy)_2(phen-pzaCu~I)](PF_6)_3 and [Re(CO)_3Br(phen-pzaCu~I)](PF_6). Limited studies of copper(II) adducts and photophysical changes upon reaction with NO are also described. The synthesis. structural characterization and some redox chemistry of the model copper(II) complex [Cu(pza)](CF_3SO_3)_2(pza = bis[2-(3,5-dimethyl-l-pyrazoly)ethyl]amine) are reported as are the syntheses and characterizations of 5-diethylamino-l, 10-phenanthroline (phen-dea) and rhenium(I) complex Re(CO)_3Br(phen-dea).
