A comment to 'Statistics on manifolds and landmark based image analysis: A nonparametric theory with applications'

The paper by Rabi Bhattacharya and Victor Patrangenaru provides a very profound overview on a major part of the present state of the art of nonparametric theory on manifolds - the maturity of which the two authors have substantially contributed to in the past - and it singles out pressing future key issues that await their solution. In view of statistical inference, intrinsic and extrinsic Fréchet means play an eminent role.
