Application of hybrid differential evolution to fuzzy dynamic optimization of a batch fermentation

Fuzzy optimization was applied to obtain the cooling rate and fermentation time of the batch beer fermentation process. The objective function and the product quality constraints under the crisp environment were reasonably softened into an optimization problem in the fuzzy environment. By eliciting the assigned membership function for the objective function and constraints, the fuzzy optimization problem could be converted into a maximizing decision problem. In order to obtain a global optimal solution, the hybrid differential evolution was introduced to solve the maximizing decision problem. The hybrid method can use the least population size of three to obtain a more satisfactory solution, as compared to the original algorithm of differential evolution, the BCPOL solver in the IMSL library, and a simple genetic algorithm solver.
