A 5-week-old temale Chow Chow was brought to the veterinary teaching hospital for evaluation of a deformed left lorelimb. The dog was owned by its breeders, who reported that the deformity had not changed since it was first noticed when the dog was 2weeks old. Abnormalities were not reported in the other 4 pups of the litter. The only abnormality noticed during physical examination was a grossly malformed left forelimb, which was shorter than the normal right lorelimb. The limb was abducted at the elbow and supinated at the carpus, placing the weight-bearing surface on the dorsal aspect of the carpus. Carpal laxity was evident in the left limb on manipulation Only 3 digits could be identified, and there was, extensive separation of sott tissues between the medial and middle digits. The medial digit was easily disarticulated from the remainder of the carpus. Radiographs of the lelt forelimb were obtained (Fig 1).
