Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignancies and a major health problem worldwide.1'2 Although its incidence has been declining in the West, incidence of gastric cancer has remained high in some Eastern countries, such as Japan, Korea, and China.3"5 For curative purposes, operation is considered an essential treatment, but the extent of lymphadenectomy remains controversial.6'7 Gastric cancer has a poor prognosis because it is often diagnosed at an advanced stage and potentially curative treatments often can not be exercised.
