This month's issue contains several articles on the issue of when radiology residents should begin to take call on their own in training departments. Currently, 6 months of training is required before serving as the primary radiologist on overnight call. At the time 2 of the articles were written, those by Gunderman and Delaney and Berger et al, there still had not been a decision on the part of the Radiology Residency Review Committee to make a change. Now there is. Beginning in July 2008, residents may not assume call without more supervising senior radiology trainees or radiologists in house until they have had at least 1 year of radiology training.
