Restructuring Cancer Clinical Trials

In June 2005, the National Cancer Advisory Board, an oversight group that makes recommendations to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), accepted and endorsed the 22 recommendations and 5-year implementation plan in a 77-page report titled Restructuring the National Cancer Clinical Trials Enterprise. The consensus report was prepared over a year and a half by the Clinical Trials Working Group (CTWG), a broad-based group convened by NCI director Andrew von Eschenbach in 2004 to advise on how to optimize the NCI-supported system of cancer clinical trials so that cancer patients derive the most benefit from advances in molecular medicine in the most timely way.
