As mentioned in the previous market outlook at the second half year of 2005, the coconut oil market faced a downward trend in prices. The prices went down at the rate of 1.43% per month during July-December 2005, and decreased at the rate of 2.18% , during January-December 2005. Fundamental causes of the low price were among others improving total supply of lauric oils, coupled with higher supply of other vegetable oils, especially soybean oil and even though at the same time global consumption of lauric oils for July-December 2005 was relatively higher at 4.57% than that of last year.
