摘要

Owing to greater demand for space in housing, office premises, tall building construction is on the increase in all metropolis. These buildings are subjected to adverse effects of wind and earth quake forces due to increased height. In view of considerable difficulty in assessing the impact of these forces on the building using exact analysis, approximate methods are availed for studying the effects. Importance of approximate methods in lateral load analysis and the justification for using the same in the preliminary design are well known. Tall building design is an iterative process. Several alternatives have to be examined for evaluating the cross sectional dimensions of the member. For this purpose, judicious choice of a method in the beginning stages curtails the number of cycles facilitating easy reach of the solution in one or two repetitions.
