摘要

According to the Shifting model of stereotyping, category members are implicitly evaluated by other people in comparison to other category members (Biernat & Kobrynowicz, 1997). Although the negative consequences of shifting standards for low-status groups have been documented (Biernat & Kobrynowicz), the present experiment demonstrated that shifting standards could harm members of high-status groups. Specifically, Whites are stereotypically high in status (Biernat & Kobrynowicz), so White members of subtypes (e.g., the unemployed) may be rated by other people subjectively less positively than (low-status) Black members of identical subtypes (e.g., the unemployed).
