Not only do classifications vary; even the measurement techniques sometimes differ. To assess 2PD Taras et al., 2011 applied the two pins transversely to the long axis of the finger. Thus, values were only measured up to 8 mm and everything above that was rated as poor. Most other studies also rate the s2PD range of 9-15 mm as good. In the same study in 4 cases moving 2PD was worse than static 2PD, which seems rather unlikely. There are some limitations to that study.In Table 7, the authors give a comprehensive overview of the core data of different studies. The authors apply the classification formerly used by Weber et al. to compare all studies. S4 should include a 2PD of 2 mm. In Table 7, results from SO-S2 are also summarized as S3. This should be made clear. If possible the presence of protective sensibility should be outlined. Protective sensibility can be very important if an anaesthetic finger or hand is the alternative. The classification used should take that fact into consideration. Several studies provide information about the presence of protective sensibility.
