With this article,1 the authors show us the tip of the iceberg concerning late infectious problems associated with Bio-Alcamid. This material was introduced as an ideal filler, resulting in long-lasting beauty, consisting merely of water (a statement suggesting safety of the material, just like statements as 'biological food', etc), having a CE mark (also suggesting safety), being completely safe (based on only preliminary clinical results) and being easily removable. None of these statements seem to last: thousands of people have been injected with this material, all with initially satisfactory results. But with increasing time since treatment there is a gradual increase in significant infectious problems, and at least 5%2 having a disastrous effect.
