Surface characterization of LLDPE film containing glycerol monostearate

Glycerol monostearate (GMS) can serve as an anti-fogging agent by increasing the hydrophilic nature of a film surface.Inthis study,blends of GMS and LLDPE were extruded int ofilm and the GMS was allowed to migrate to the surface over time.Thesurface was characterized by measuring the static water contact angle,which was then used to calculate the surface free energy of the film.Results showed that the equilibrium wettability of thefilm deviated dramatically from that of neat LLDPE whenthe GMS concentrations were greater than about 1900 ppm.Time-dependent studies demonstrated that the rate ofsurface-energy change eas significantly inlfuenced by the GMS concentration.
