In February, UK budget airline easyjet began a trial of an acrylic exterior coating that aims to reduce drag and increase fuel efficiency by smoothing the aircraft surface and reducing dirt build-up. The ultra thin coating, already used on US military aircraft, uses a nano-technology polymer that crosslinks and bonds to the paint surface, filling in minuscule cracks and pits.
