An experiment on rice - wheat cropping sequence was conducted during 2001-02 and 2002-03 at University farm. Highest grain yield of rice was obtained under 25 % N substitution by Karanj leaf (Dems indica) in rice during 2001, while during 2002, the same was found when 100% recommended dose of fertilizer was applied in rice and wheat. Highest grain yield of wheat was recorded under 25 % N substitution by Karanj leaf in rice followed by 100% RDF in wheat during 2001 -02, while during 2002-03, 50% N substitution of N by Karanj leaf in rice +100 % RDF in wheat recorded maximum wheat yield. Among the combination of inorganic and organic sources of nutrients, 50% N substitution by Karanj leaf + 100% RDF in wheat recorded maximum energy input. The maximumgrain and biomass energy output was recorded under 25 % N substitution by Karanj leaf in rice + 100% RDF in wheat and the maximum energy use efficiency was under 25 % N substitution by Karanj leaf + 75% RDF in wheat.
