Effect of Intercrop and NPK Fertilization of Performance of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench)*

Field experiments conducted for two consecutive years 2000 and 2001 at Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi reveal that intercropping of okra with french bean did not significantly affect the performance of Okra. Significantly higher okra equivalentyield and net return were observed with okra + cowpea intercropping (134.61q/ha) and (Rs. 27733.89/ha respectively). 100% recommended dose of fertilizers recorded higher okra equivalent yield (153.16q/ha) and net returns (Rs. 30709.91q/ha) as compared torest of the fertilizer levels. The best performance of okra in terms of yield, number of fruits per plant size and plant height were observed with 100% recommended dose of fertilizer. This significantly highest okra equivalent yield (158.98q/ha) and netreturns (Rs. 33205.17/ha) were obtained with okra + cowpea intercropping system at 100% recommended dose of fertilizers application which was at par with okra + cowpea at 75% recommended dose of fertilizers applied to both okra and cowpea.
