In this work, the nonlinear flow model for horizontal well production in an underground porous-media formation was firstly established and solved using Laplace transform. A series of standard log-log type curves of pressure transients for horizontal well production in different formations were plotted, such as infinite formation, closed formation, edgewater-driving formation and bottom-water-driving formation. Nonlinear flow behavior, including main flow regimes and dynamic response of pressure wave to different boundaries, were thoroughly analyzed using the plotted type curves. Qualitative and quantitative analyses were implemented to compare the solutions of the linear and nonlinear models. The results showed that the nonlinearity caused by the quadratic pressure gradient influenced the pressure transients positively and the nonlinear flow model will describe the transient flow behavior for horizontal well production in underground porous-media formations more accurately.
