On nanotechnology and Coatings

What is nanotechnology, is it new, and can industrial coatings benefit from it? Jonathan Bourne, Paint Research Association, UK. There is yet no internationally agreed upon definition of nanotechnology, although the commonly accepted one is that it is the application of knowledge from the study of particles below 100 nanometers (nm) in size, across at least one dimension, down to the atomic level. In November 2005, the ISO Committee Working Group on Nanotechnology standards (ISO TC229) held its first meeting. Thus far, the following three working groups have been established.
