The development of a diverse range of high-build latex paints over the last two decades has been noteworthy. In particular, these paints have satisfied the market's demands for attractive, readily applied finishes that can mask surface imperfections not covered by more conventional paints. The high-build products also provide enhanced impermeability to water vapor and carbon dioxide. However, like any developing technology, high-build latex paints have limitations that the formulator, specifier, and applicator need to understand if problems are to be avoided.
