Over-the-counter coal futures prices barely moved during Tuesday's trading session, and the slight movements in a light market were in a southerly direction. "I think everybody's watching these screens and just not believing what's going on in the world. It's scary," a coal broker said, referring to another hefty drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average Tuesday. The share prices of most coal-company stocks dropped and the Dow Jones Industrials closed at 9,447.11, down more than 500 points. Crude futures went up to 90.06 dollars/barrel, but natural gas front-month settled at 6.768 dollars/MMBtu, down almost 7 cents.
