摘要

AS THE SCOPE of practice evolves with more patients experiencing surgery in the ambulatory setting, the faces and factors involved in the care of these patients also change. The demographics for ambulatory surgery patients have evolved over the past decade from relatively young healthy patients to patients with complex comorbidities ranging from extremes in age to extremes in disease management. This change in population calls for a focused change in the understanding of communicable disease and role of the perianesthesia nurse in identifying, preventing, and educating their patient and family populations regarding multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs).
