Queries from European physicians about analgesic pharmacotherapy and responses from the author are presented. Topics addressed in this issue pertain to epidural injection for painful central lumbar stenosis and epicondolysis.A 79-year-old, somewhat overweight gentleman, with hemochromatosis well controlled by phlebotomy (venesection) since the age of 20, and except for his pain condition, in satisfactory general health. He has a progressively painful lumbar central spinal stenosis with impingement of spinal nerves at the right inter-vertebral foramen L5/S1, documented by computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A right hip prosthesis inserted 5 years ago is clinically and radiologically fine. He has the classic symptoms and signs of lumbar spinal stenosis: low-back pain on straightening the lumbar spinal column, most severe at the right lumbosacral region extending to the right gluteal region and to the lateral and front of the right thigh.
