An 8-year-old Somalian boy presented with a 3-month history of reduced appetite, weight loss of 3 kg and intermittent non-bilious vomiting. He had been living in Australia for 4 years with his family who were all well. Physical examination was essentially normal other than reduced subcutaneous fat and decreased muscle bulk.An abdominal radiograph was normal, A blood count revealed a mild eosinophilia.
