The role of serial amnioinfusions in the management of previable pre-term premature rupture of membranes.

A 33-year-old woman (2 gravida, 0 para) was admitted to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Santa Maria Delia Misericordia University Hospital, Perugia, at 22 weeks' gestation, with pre-term premature rupture of membranes and anhydramnios, transferred from a peripheral hospital unit under tocolytic therapy (atosiban i.v.) and betamethasone (12 mg i.m.) daily, in two doses. The obstetric history consisted of an episode of threatened abortion in the 1st trimester. Amniocentesis was not performed. Ultrasound examination at 20 weeks showed a single umbilical artery with no fetal abnormalities.
