Diffraction efficiency measurement in photorefractive thick volume holograms

We discuss the difficulties and propose a technique to measure the diffraction efficiency of volume holograms exhibiting a high Bragg angular selectivity recorded in samples exhibiting lens-like properties, as is usually the case with photorefractive crystals. We also discuss the use of a laser probe beam for diffraction efficiency measurement.
