Heterosis in relation to combining ability for seed yield and its contributing traits in sesame, Sesamum indicum L.

Sesame, Sesamum indicum L. is an important oilseed crop with 40-54% oil and 20-25% protein. The productivity of the sesame in Maharashtra is very low i.e., 220 kg/ha and the situation is similar in the country. To enhance the present yields and overcome the stagnation, it is essential to reshuffle the genes through hybridization. Hence, it is necessary to identify the gene action involved in the expression of various yield contributing characters and also the combining ability of the parents and theresulting crosses. The present study was, therefore, undertaken to estimate heterosis in relation to combining ability effects for seed yield and its related traits.
