SPI makes bioplastics part of the mainstream

The US-headquartered Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) formed its Bioplastics Council in 2008. Since then, bio-based materials have gained a greater share of the plastics industry. Bioplastics World recently interviewed Melissa Hockstad, vice president of the Washington-based SPI’s Material Suppliers Council. Hockstad has been instrumental in managing SPI’s Bioplastics Council, launching the nascent nanotechnology group, lending technical expertise to a variety of Bio-Process Systems Alliance and fluoropolymers division projects.
