The standard temperature range for waste-rubber pyrolysis has been reported as 480-l,740°F. Within 480-750°F,shredded tire scrap decomposes into increasing amounts of gases and oil;and above 750°F,oil and solid char yields can decrease relative to gas production. At these higher temperatures both the gases and oil produced are high in carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAH). A low temperature pyrolysis process developed by Delta-Energy,LLC(Monroeville,Pa.;edlinks.che. com/6902 535)dubbed DEPolymerization, promises to reduce the amount of hazardous PAH while simultaneously recovering carbon-black-based solids qualitatively comparable to virgin carbon blacks.
