摘要

Charles W. "Wick" Moorman, chairman, president and CEO of Norfolk Southern Corporation sat in a second floor conference room at NS's Pocahontas Division headquarters on Princeton Avenue in Bluefield, West Virginia and speculated about the coal moving through the busy Bluefield yard. "Coal is always going to be a big, big part of our business," Moorman said. "I don't have a crystal ball to see the future, but I knew what was happening five years ago, and it seems highly likely that natural gas prices will be even higher in the future. "I know it may seem like a cliche, but this country - and specifically here in the heart of the Appalachian region - is the Saudi Arabia of coal," he said. "With this abundant resource, we'll have to use coal in ways that have less environmental impact, but I feel as though we will do that." Moorman became part of the NS management team in 1991 as assistant vice president of stations, terminals and transportation planning and moved slowly and methodically up the ranks. In 2004, he was named president and a year later, he added CEO to his title. At the first of 2006, he added chairman to his title, accepting the torch from long-time CEO David Goode.
