Buchanan longwall hits rock intrusion; production impact likely limited

CONSOL Energy's Buchanan longwall panel has recently run into a sandstone intrusion, though the impact of that is not likely to be of any long-term detriment to production at the mine, said a CONSOL source. According to Platts COALdat, Buchanan produced roughly 4.7 million tons of metallurgical-grade coal in 2003 - shipping roughly 780,000 tons of that into the utility steam coal market, with the remainder going into the metallurgical coal market. The coal averages 13,747 Btu/lb. and 1.2 lbs. SO2/mmBtu.
