摘要

Aluminum and its alloys are used in the aerospace, automotive, marine and construction industries for low specific gravity and high specific strength. Fuselage skin, compressor pistons and cylinder heads, hull, water tanks etc. are a few examples. In such applications stress corrosion and surface oxidation occur leading to degradation of mechanical properties. Hence, it is important to protect the surface. Aluminum oxide coating can resist surface oxidation and corrosion. Steel components are coated with alumina by chemical vapor deposition, sol-gel etc. techniques [1, 2]. Recently, the unique advantages of microwave processing has attracted many researches [3-11]. In the present work, a microwave heating technique was employed to develop aluminum oxide coating on aluminum.
