摘要

Ever since Mandelbrot's book [1] attempts have been made to relate fracture surface roughness to fractal geometry [2-4]. Mandelbrot et al. [5] went further and related the fractal parameters of the fracture surface to the impact energy in a maraging steel heat-treated at different temperatures. This idea has been extended to many materials, with mixed results [4]. It is important to evaluate fractal parameters on surfaces generated in well-defined fracture mechanics tests.
