Magnesium alloys are attractive for many structural applications in automobile and aeroplane industries as a result of their high isotropic modulus and strengthto-weight ratio in both the cast and wrought forms. It has been documented that some alloying additions can influence the microstructure and performance of magnesium-based alloys. For example, the addition of Mn can lead to a significant improvement in corrosion resistance [1]. The magnesium alloy containing Zn can be grain refined effectively by Zr, which is rendered ineffectively by the presence of Al and Mn [2]. In addition, it has been well known that rare-earth additions such as Ce Nd, Pr to Mg can improve the creep performance [3, 4].
