Magnetic susceptibility of heavy rare-earth orthochromites at higher temperature

Compounds with perovskite structure of the type ABO3, (where A is a large nonmagnetic alkali, alkaline earth or magnetic rare-earth ion and B is a small transition metal cation) exhibit ferroelectric, semiconducting and magnetic properties interesting both from theoretical and experimental points of view. Rare-earth orthochromites (7?CrO3 where R stands for rare-earth) with interesting magnetic properties belong to this class in the broad sense, however, they crystallize in the orthorhombic unit cell at room temperature with four formula unit per unit cell [1-3]. These orthochromites have been well studied as regards their magnetic [4-11], electrical [12-16] and other properties [17-23]. Their mag-netic structure at low temperature is complex but relatively well understood [10]. In this paper we report the magnetic susceptibility {%) of i?CrO3 (R = Y, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er and Yb) in the temperature range 300-1000 K.
