Two papers by Wagh and co-workers [1,2] on the porosity dependence of the Young's modulus (£"), fracture toughness (Kjc) and fracture strength (a) of porous ceramics have originated some comments in the literature [3,4]. In the model of Wagh and co-workers Ihc ceramic microstruetiire is represented by a continuous network of solid cylinders with pore channels in between, and the resultant relationships can be written as:
