Active metal brazing has been widely used to joinceramics to metals, as sound joints are usually achieved in a singlestep process without special equipment. however, residual stressesmay be a potential problem especially upon joining ceramics toalloys with relatively high thermal expansion coefficients. Thiswork investigates the brazing behavior of Alumina (Al2O3)to asintered Fe-Ni-Cu alloy, specially designed to match its coefficientof thermal expansion to that of the ceramic counterpart. Theresults indicate the presence of an interfacial zone whosemicrostructure depends on the filler alloy employed. A relationshipwas established between the microstructure of the interfaceand theflexural strength of the joints.
